God's Love Expressed

"It is though God is speaking 'I am ceasing on the seventh day not only that you may acknowledge and love me, but in order to make it known that I recognise and love you'” (p35, The Lost Meaning of the Sabbath, Sigve K. Tonstad)

There is beauty in the Sabbath. Unfortunately, it is sometimes seen as an oppressive ritual or a tradition of Judaism that was overturned at the cross. Yet, the Sabbath has always been since the creation of this world and the Sabbath can be described as beautiful. Reading the second chapter of Tonstad's book, 'The Lost Meaning of the Sabbath', my eyes were opened to a God whose almighty power revealed during the creation of the world did not stop Him from coming down into our time and space to spend the first Sabbath with His creation. After God purposefully created our world with His majestic creative power on display, the intimacy of desired relationship eclipsed majesty. On the Seventh day. God came down. To respond. To love. To express the value He sees in human kind. God shows within the creation story that the centre of the Sabbath is that He is Love. To live in a relationship with the Creator.

Here's another one of the beautiful quotes in this chapter that touched my heart:

'It is though God is speaking "I am ceasing on the seventh day not only that you may acknowledge and love me, but in order to make it known that I recognise and love you" (p35, The Lost Meaning of the Sabbath, Sigve K. Tonstad).

Isn't that just so beautiful! I'm still reading through Tonstad's book, but so far it's has been one of the most beautiful books concerning the Sabbath I have read. If you get the chance, read Tonstad's beautiful book. And discover 'The Lost Meaning of the Seventh day".

I pray that this Sabbath will be a blessing to you.

Songs of Ascent 2012 Theme

It is a tragic reality that many fail to respond to God and His love because of a misunderstanding of who He really is. Many see God as either aloof and impersonal or as unjust and unloving. Through music, testimonies, and Scripture “Who I AM” seeks to undo the misconceptions about God’s character by presenting a biblically accurate picture of who He is—a loving Creator and Savior who desires to be intimately and genuinely involved in the lives of His children.
